New destination brand to reflect Solomon Islands’ culture, warmth and unique visitor experience
Reflecting significant developments currently shaping the Solomon Islands’ tourism landscape. Tourism Solomons has announced ‘Strategic Transition’ as the theme for the 2026 Tourism in Focus conference taking place at the Solomon Kitano Mendana Hotel on Thursday.
Tourism Solomons Acting CEO, Dagnal Dereveke said the ‘Strategic Transition’ theme represents refocused progress and signals clear direction for the tourism sector’s next phase of sustainable growth.
The new direction, he said, is seen as timely with Tourism Solomons’ Organisational Strategic Plan (2023–2025) having concluded on 31 December 2025 and dovetails with the Ministry of Culture & Tourism’s National Policy and National Tourism Strategy, which is now underway.
A major component of this transition is the evolution of the destination brand from the highly-successful ‘Solomons Is.’ identity, launched in 2018, to ‘Hapi Isles’, signalling a refreshed and vibrant positioning for the Solomon Islands in the international marketplace.
Mr Dereveke said the new brand reflects the Solomon Islands’ culture, warmth and unique visitor experience, while aligning with contemporary marketing strategies.
Improved regional air connectivity is also seen as a key factor in the overall policy approach with additional Qantas flights from Brisbane, and new Solomon Airlines services into Papua New Guinea offering same-day Asia connections.
Fiji Airways’ expanded services into four U.S. cities and Canada have also opened new pathways and partnership opportunities.
At the industry level, Mr Dereveke said operators are strengthening their digital presence, creating new visibility and distribution opportunities.
Updated MCT Minimum Industry Standards are also being introduced to reinforce quality, professionalism and sustainable growth.
“In the bigger picture, ‘Strategic Transition’ represents more than change,” Mr Dereveke said.
“It represents intentional, coordinated progress as we align policy, connectivity, branding and industry standards to move confidently into the next phase of tourism development.”
