PARENTS and guardians of students attending Su’u National Secondary School in Malaita are demanding its immediate closure, calling on the SSEC (South Seas Evangelical Church) Education Authority to first renovate the ailing facilities.
Frustrated parents told the Sunday Star the current state of some of the school facilities are not conducive for living and learning.
They claimed school is now in its worst of state, with many students expressing their disgust at the facilities.
“The classrooms and dormitories have all run down; the ablution blocks are simply disgusting, even the rooms both the girls and boys dormitories do not have locks on them,” one parent said.
“What is going on here? Where is the development promised each year to us (parents) and our children?
“Where is all the money paid for school fees, boarding fees and other additional charges or costs demanded by the school?
“This is totally unacceptable for us parents who send our children there to acquire good quality education in a holistic approach.
“We have images, reports and even eye witnessed ourselves the state of the school’s facilities and that simply depicts a school without proper management.”
The parents called on the SSEC Education Authority to have the school, regarded as one of the leading and biggest high schools, closed while they seek funds to renovate the facilities.
“We understand that due to this, a good number of teachers had already resigned or moved out from the school.
“We also understand that due to the lack of proper resources at the school’s science lab, the school is planning on ceasing its Form 7 science intakes for 2015,” one parent claimed.
Comments are being sought from the SSEC’s education director.
