Gizo, the centre of Western Province came to a standstill this week as Caretaker Prime Minister Gordon Darcy Lilo returned to his constituency to seek his peoples’ consent to represent them in parliament for the fourth term.
Reports from Gizo said the response was resounding and overwhelming with more than 200 people showed up to welcome the PM at Nusatupe airport and escorted the leader to Gizo via boats full of supporters.
As it was not enough, another crowd of more than 300 supporters marched alongside their leader to PT109 where the people made their verdict loud and clear.
They urged PM Lilo not to withdraw his candidacy come the closure of the nomination period.
Three elders also nominated the PM and the supporters themselves took the nomination paper to the Returning Officer who after screening the paper and gave his approval that it is in order.
The brief nomination ceremony saw people having sandwich and water and then disbursed to their respective work places.
In his brief address to his people, PM Lilo acknowledged their support and prayers during his three years tenure as Prime Minister of Solomon Islands.
He reafffirmed his pledge to serve the interests of his people and that of the country as a whole.
PM Lilo also emphasized the importance adhering to political parties’ polices and urged his people not to be swayed by personalities of candidates.
It is understood that PM Lilo is the president of the Solomon Islands Party for Rural Advancement (SIPRA) and the party recently launched its manifesto last weekend.
