TAIWAN has congratulated newly elected Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare.
Mr Sogavare was appointed to the top job on Tuesday after beating his contender, Jeremiah Manele.
In a statement, the Taiwanese Embassy office in Honiara said, it’s good to see Solomon Islands successfully conducted its national general election in a free, fair and peaceful manner.
The embassy added that the election of the Prime Minister was also done in the similar manner.
“This accomplishment has become an excellent legacy and model for the people, politicians, political parties and the Government of Solomon Islands to follow in the future.
“It has certainly re-established the pride and dignity of the Government and People of Solomon Islands as a democratic country. Heart-felt congratulations to you all!
“Now it is time for the new Government to begin to get on with many tough works for national development. Taiwan as a worthy friend of Solomon Islands and will certainly share its experience and extend its assistance.
“To echo what Mr. Denton Rarawa, Governor of the CBSI has said, “Let us get on with it and do it!” Based on our long-standing friendship and common democratic values, let Taiwan and Solomon Islands work together for the advancement of the Happy Isles!”
