Gizo provincial capital of Western Province is set to undergo a major infrastructure upgrade as tar sealing of its main roads is scheduled to commence in July this year.
Thanks to the CAUSE Project Phase II under the World Bank for making this happen.
Premier of Western Province, Billy Veo, told Solomon Star last week that the long-awaited road sealing project is a significant step forward for the provincial capital and is part of the government’s broader commitment to improving essential infrastructure across the province.
He acknowledged the ongoing efforts by both the national government and donor partners who are supporting the project.
Premier Veo said the road sealing project will not only enhance transportation and mobility for residents and visitors but also improve public health and safety, reduce vehicle maintenance costs, and support economic activity in the tourism and business sectors.
“We thank everyone who has been part of the planning and preparations. The people of Gizo deserve better infrastructure, and this is just the beginning,” he added.
The tar seal road will cover the Junction road at the Police Station and MSG road to PT109 junction road.
The extension phase will be at the Corner shop Tophill road to Busu’s road before reaching Jah Mountain.
More details on the project timeline and contractors involved are expected to be released in the coming weeks.
