The Tobaita Association for Research and Development (TARD) annual free Christmas games has kicked off in Malu’u station, North Malaita early this week.
Speaking to Star Sports in Auki on Tuesday a member of TARD Wale Rilifia said teams from villages in the Tobaita region are currently competing.
Sports played in this tournament included seven-a-side soccer for seniors men, junior and girls, volley ball and netball for girls and women.
He said so far 73 teams have already registered under the sevens senior category, eight teams for netball, 17 teams for volley ball, nine teams for girls soccer and 12 teams for junior sevens soccer.
The week long sporting event which kicked off on Monday is expected to end this Friday – the 16th of December.
The annual TARD free Christmas game is a yearly event that is very popular among Tobaita people.
It had attracted participants and spectators from all over Tobaita.
This year’s game was officially sponsored by the MP for North Malaita Jimmy Lusibaea and co-hosted by the Aurafu FC and TARD USP Laucala students.
