A taxi driver accused of involving in a robbery of more than $130,000 has been remanded in custody on Monday.
Police Prosecutor Alice Foanaota made the successful custodial remand application, Monday afternoon before Principal Magistrate Jim Seuika.
Francis Gugumae was arrested last Friday and was charged with one count of robbery.
The alleged incident occurred on September 17, this year at the King George bus stop.
Police alleged the alleged victim who is a security officer was waiting to catch a bus to deposit money for his boss who owns a timber company at Ranadi, when he was robbed.
It was alleged that while waiting for the bus, three men approached.
One of the three men allegedly grabbed the bag containing about $100,000 cash and more than $38,000 worth of Bank of South Pacific Bank (BSP) and Westpac Cheques.
The men allegedly ran across the road, catch a taxi and took off in the cab.
Police alleged the victim tried to stop the taxi but it sped off with the men.
He then allegedly took another taxi back to where he worked and reported the matter to his boss who later reported the matter to police.
Gugumae will return to the court on October 6.
He is not yet legally represented.
