Solomon Cup kicks off today
The much waited Solomon Cup tournament will kick off today at the Lawson Tama Stadium.
Two matches will be played to mark the start of the competition which will run for the next two weeks.
First up will be two group A matches featuring hosts, Honiara up against Central Islands and Temotu Arrows to take on Guadalcanal Hornets.
The opening match between Honiara and Central Islands will kick off at 2pm followed by Temotu Arrow and Guadalcanal at 4pm.
All these matches are anticipated to be tough as each provincial team targets the first three points of the competition.
There are no clear favourites as yet; the start of the tournament will give football fans and supporters the chance to pick out which teams they will bet on for this Solomon Cup title.
Group B matches will be played tomorrow June 27.
Malaita will take on Western Turtles at 2pm and Makira Ulawa will take on Renbel at 4pm tomorrow.
All teams are prepared to battle for this tournament’s title.
This Solomon Cup tournament marks the revival of the competition since 2009.
Since the inception of the competition, Honiara won the competition four times, Malaita three times and Guadalcanal once.
Malaita Eagles is the current defending champion. They vowed to defend that title.
However, fans and supporters have the feeling this year’s title will be won by a new province.
But this will be only be determined after two weeks of football battle.
