The newly appointed Minister for Traditional Governance, Pease and Ecclesiastical Affairs (MTGPEA) Hon. Stephen Kumi has briefed all ministry’s staff about action plan the ministry need to execute under the Government of National Unity and Transformation (GNUT) policy.
This is to achieve a meaning peace and development in Solomon Islands.
The new Minister made his remarks during a brief ceremony organized at the ministry’s headquarter in Honiara to formally welcome him as the new Minister for Traditional Governance, Peace and Ecclesiastical Affairs (MTGPEA)
“As we embark on this journey together, I want to reaffirm our commitment to the vision and directives outlined in the Government of National Unity and Transformation (GNUT) policy.
“We are to foster inclusive governance that respects our cultural diversity, promote peace and social cohesion, and support the roles of religious and traditional leaders in community development.

“We must work hand-in-hand with all stakeholders to ensure that our efforts lead to sustainable peace, social justice, and national progress,” said Minister Kumi.
Minister Kumi also urged all MTGPEA staff to work towards a new policy and legislation that aim to empower all our indigenous people and increasing ministry’s supplementary support to all our churches this year as Solomon Islands is preparing for the 50th Silver Jubilee independence anniversary in 2028 and its graduation from the LDC status in 2027.
The Permanent Secretary-Lottie Vaisekavea in his welcome address said the ministry truly welcomes him as ministry’s new minister and pledged ministry’s full support for his new leadership to continue with the implementation of the GNUT priorities and policies.
The new Minister will continue from the success of his predecessor Hon. John Tuhaika Jnr, leading the MTGPEA in its transition from peace-building objectives to new development objectives, which are vital for achieving sustainable peace and development in Solomon Islands as it addresses the root issue of conflict in the country.
The Ministry of Traditional Governance, Peace and Ecclesiastical Affairs (MTGPEA) was established to recognize, strengthen and empower traditional governance systems and structures to protect and preserve the diversity of our organic traditions and cultures in Solomon Islands to achieve a united, peaceful, prosperous and resilient nation.
