Three Bills are currently before Parliament for consideration when it resumes sittings this year.
They are the State-Owned Enterprises (SOE) [Amendment] Bill 2024, the Mineral Resources Bill 2025, and the Value Added Tax (VAT) Bill 2025.
Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele told the media during his first press conference on Monday that the Government is still awaiting the Speaker’s consideration for notice on two additional bills—the Dangerous Drugs Act (DDA) [Amendment] Bill 2025 and the Civil Registration Bill 2025.
“We will continue to liaise with the Clerk of the National Parliament on the Bills and Legislation Committee’s timing for hearings on the three bills that are already on notice,” the Prime Minister said.
However, PM Manele noted that progress will not always be immediate, and not every issue can be resolved within a single year.
He said the Government’s approach is to work steadily, prioritise carefully, and remain responsive to changing circumstances as they arise.
