REVIVING the Laulasi Cultural Tourism Centre presents a gateway to investment opportunities for Malaita Province.
Thats the key message delivered by Malaita Province Deputy Premier Randol Sifoni during a reconciliation ceremony for the Laulasi tribes held on Wednesday 6th August.
Mr. Sifoni emphasized that reconciliation is more than just about healing divisions,it also paves the way for transformation and development.
“By embracing nature-based tourism and cultural heritage, we create a special economic zone that has the potential to boost community resilience, support biodiversity conservation, and promote our cultural artifacts and traditional knowledge,” he said.
He highlighted that nature-based tourism holds significant promise for regions like Malaita, which are rich in natural beauty but face limited economic opportunities.
“Tourism can create much-needed employment, especially for our youth. It can diversify our rural economy and provide a source of dignity and income for both poor and non-poor households alike,” Mr. Sifoni said.
He added that tourism benefits many sectors.
“Money spent by visitors on food, crafts, transport, accommodation, and experiences circulates through our communities, generating jobs and income for our people,” he said.
Mr. Sifoni also noted that tourism fosters local entrepreneurship, strengthens incentives for environmental conservation, and opens doors for inclusive and sustainable development.
