TOWNEND Adventist School in Auki, Malaita has shown its support and commitment to the Malaita Provincial Government by leading a clean-up campaign in Auki town ahead of the province’s Second Appointed Day celebrations on Thursday.
The initiative, which forms part of the school’s health awareness and community service program, involved students from both the primary and secondary divisions.
They spent Thursday cleaning various parts of the town in a voluntary effort that received praise from the public and parents alike.
One parent, Dany Belo, commended the school’s efforts, describing the initiative as a positive example for younger generations.
“This is good for students. It teaches them to take ownership of their town and environment,” said Mr Belo.
Malaita Province Youth and Children’s Desk Officer, Francis Samo, also acknowledged the students’ contribution, expressing pride in the school’s leadership in supporting the province.

“On behalf of the Malaita Provincial Government and the Auki Town Council Division, I wish to express our sincere thanks and appreciation to the school management, particularly the SDA Church, the Principal, Head Teacher, staff, and students of Townend Adventist School, both Primary and Secondary, for taking this bold step to voluntarily clean up our town,” Mr Samo said.
He added that such an initiative sets a great example for other schools to follow.
“Let’s thank them for leading by example. A town-wide clean-up program involving all schools would be a great idea moving forward,” he added.
The clean-up was well received by the community and serves as a reminder of the role schools and young people can play in promoting civic responsibility.
