The High Court will on Wednesday next week hear a possible no case to answer submission in the murder trial of Dickson Sina.
The matter has been listed for mention at 9:30am before Deputy Chief Justice Rex Faukona, following an indication by the defence at the close of the prosecution’s case that it intends to make a no case to answer submission.
Sina is charged with one count of murder in relation to the death of a man whose body was found in a water well at Tulagi in 2022.
This is a re-trial, prompted by the death of Sina’s original lawyer during the first trial.
The re-trial began in 2024, with only one witness testifying during that sitting before new dates were set.
The prosecution has called a total of five witnesses, including one who testified during the initial trial before Sina’s lawyer passed away.
The court next Wednesday will hear whether the defence will proceed with the no case to answer submission.
Lazarus Waroka from the Public Solicitor’s Office represents Sina, while Public Prosecutor John Wesley Zaze appears for the Crown.
The murder allegedly occurred between September 24 and 26, 2022.
It is alleged the deceased had left his home for the market on September 24, 2022, but failed to return.
His body was later discovered inside a water well at the Smoking Area in Tulagi.
The well, located near the main road and Tulagi Wharf, was commonly used by nearby residents for bathing and washing, with only a few houses situated in the area.
