Prime Minister (PM) Jeremiah Manele on Wednesday met with Dr. Fahad Al Taffaq, United Arab Emirates Ambassador to Australia.
Its part of strengthening bilateral relations and explore opportunities for deeper cooperation between Solomon Islands and the UAE.
At the brief meeting Prime Minister Manele provided an update on the Bina Harbour project, emphasizing its significance as a transformational initiative for Solomon Islands.
While the project has experienced some delays, the government remains optimistic about its completion within this parliamentary term and is actively seeking investors to support its development.
“We are committed to advancing projects like Bina Harbour that will drive sustainable economic growth and create jobs for our people,” Prime Minister Manele said.
“Our partnership with the UAE opens doors for investment and collaboration that will benefit our countries.”
The two leaders discussed broadening economic cooperation, including the potential signing of an air services agreement.

The UAE expressed readiness to proceed but is awaiting formal communication from Solomon Islands.
Prime Minister Manele also touched on Solomon Islands’ postponed engagement with Pacific Islands Forum dialogue partners, expressing hope for renewed dialogue in the near future.
Ambassador Dr. Fahad Al Taffaq highlighted regional priorities for the UAE such as waste management and land reclamation.
He also said the UAE hopes to introduce a new special envoy to the Pacific but that this will take place only after the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat completes its ongoing review of the regional architecture.
“The UAE is committed to supporting Solomon Islands and the Pacific region through partnerships that address shared challenges and opportunities,” Ambassador Al Taffaq said. “We look forward to working closely with the Solomon Islands government to realize these goals.”
Both leaders expressed optimism about expanding cooperation across economic, environmental, and diplomatic fronts.
