The United Liberation Movement of West Papua (ULMWP) has received full support from Guadalcanal Province, traditional leaders and its people in a form of a traditional chupu.
Provincial Deputy Premier, Rollen Seleso said, it’s so fortunate to have the ULMWP setting foot and staying on our soil.
“We so grateful to have you here and for the cause your group takes on to be here, the sole purpose to campaign for membership in the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG).”
Representing the Guadalcanal traditional chiefs, Charles Kueku said, the significance of your presence on the island is indeed respected at the same time welcoming.
“As Melanesian brothers and sisters we are so grateful having you here, and to appreciate that we the people of this island wish to present to you this chupu (traditional food),” he said.
He said,their purpose here is important for all and the chupu signifies that connection of togetherness as Melanesians.
“Our people’s support behind West Papua remains and will continue to do so of whatever outcome from the MSG leaders deliberation.”
ULMWP General Secretary, Octovianus Mote thanked the Guadalcanal province, the traditional chiefs and its people for the chupu and highlighted the Melanesian connection as very important.
“In Melanesian culture this shows the connectivity between us and we are humbled to receive this,” he said.
He said Solomon Islands has been a longtime supporter for West Papua since past leaders and this only reiterates that bond.
“This chupu shows in Melanesia culture which is paramount and making known that we are not standing alone on this cause.
“Having especially one of the big provinces backing us is overwhelming and a gesture that will be a powerful drive right to the end.”
He added praising Prime Minister Manasseh for making the strongest speeches ever heard in any Melanesian Spearhead Group Summits
“Acknowledging the Melanesian peoples desires to peace, prosperity and solidarity in whatever cause is noted and well said.
“More importantly, because he knows very well it’s the people that put him there and to uphold rightful principles of Christianity as one of the fundamental points raised.”
