Graduates of the University of the South Pacific (USP) Solomon Islands Campus Alumni Network gathered on Friday at the Friendship Hall in Honiara to celebrate their academic achievements.
The event was graced by His Majesty King Tupou VI of Tonga, Chancellor of USP, and Mr. Siosiua ‘Utoikamanu, Chair of the USP Council and Interim Management Group (IMG).
In his address, Mr. Utoikamanu congratulated the graduates, acknowledging the support of families and communities.
“Your achievement reflects not only your discipline and determination, but also the strength of your families, your communities, and the vibrant culture of Solomon Islands that has supported you every step of the way,” he said.
He highlighted the close ties between USP and Solomon Islands, noting the thousands of graduates contributing to the nation’s development.
“This campus stands as a testament to our shared commitment to education as the foundation of national development,” he added.
Bachelor of Commerce graduate Caroline Richard Raomae spoke on behalf of the graduates, expressing gratitude to USP leaders, staff, classmates, and families.
“Each of you will play a key role in your communities and society at large. Every role matters, every effort counts, and together we keep our communities thriving,” she said.
Mr. ‘Utoikamanu also linked the celebration to the Solomon Islands’ growing role in the region, pointing to its successful hosting of the 54th Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting (PIFLM) this year.
The ceremony was both a celebration of individual achievement and a recognition of education’s role in shaping national progress.
