Myzomelas get official welcome from Malaita Government
The victorious Malaita Myzomela Under-14 teams received a warm official welcome upon their arrival in Auki on Monday.
The Myzomela boys and girls claimed victory at the 2024 Solomon Power Iumi Play National Championship held in Honiara last week.
According to records from the Solomon Power Iumi Play National Championship past competition, the Malaita Myzomela Under-14 boys’ team has won the championship in 2022, 2023, and 2024.
This year marks the first championship win for the girls’ team, who triumphed over their rivals in the grand final last week.
The double victory energized Auki, with a one-hour victory parade celebrating the teams as they arrived at the provincial capital.
Auki town came to a stand still as supporters and fans came out in numbers to join the mass celebration.
The official welcome ceremony was attended by various representatives from the Malaita Provincial Government led by the premier, including the Provincial Secretary, and representatives from the Youth and Women’s Division, Sports Division, Tourism Division, Fisheries Division, and other departments.
During the ceremony, Malaita Province Premier Elijah Asilaua congratulated the Myzomela Under-14 teams for their outstanding performance at the championships in Honiara.
He expressed pride in the achievements of the children and highlighted the importance of sports in their development.
“Malaita is proud to witness the talents of our youth in sports, which they have demonstrated by becoming champions of the 2024 Solomon Power Iumi Play National Under-14 Championships,” the premier stated.
He emphasized the value of recognizing and celebrating the unique contributions of every individual, regardless of their background or abilities.
“The Myzomela Under-14 teams have made a significant mark in the history of our beloved province and the Solomon Islands,” he added.
He urged the community to continue empowering the younger generation who are passionate about achieving greatness.
“This needs to be recognized and nurtured for positive change, creating a brighter future for our province and country,” Premier Asilaua concluded.
The teams presented their winning trophies to the Malaita Provincial Premier and his officials during the official welcome ceremony at the APS playing ground.
