VILLAGERS of east Makira are calling on the telecommunication companies in the country to seriously consider establishing of more towers in their communities.
They said that, they have seen the importance of communicating through mobile phones in rural Makira so they need more cellular phone coverage.
The Solomon Star understands that the only towers that are serving the people of Star Habour in east Makira were the Our Telekom towers at Namuga station and Santa Ana Island.
With the installation of the two towers, only few villages of the Star Habour area are currently accessing mobile coverage.
The people have also called on Bmobile-Vodafone to erect their towers in the eastern region of the province to ensure the flow of telecommunication in their respective villages and communities.
“We have seen the importance of communication through mobile phones, so we want more towers to be erected here.
“If Our Telekom and Bmobile-Vodafone can come to our rescue, it will be a positive development for the rural people of east Makira constituency,” a villager of Nahuhu in the Wainoni area told the Solomon Star last week.
He also told the landowners within the eastern region of Makira province to avail their lands for development to reach their shores especially when it comes to telecommunication.
