VISALE Parish station on Sunday celebrates the Feast of Divine Mercy with more than 300 Catholic members attending the ceremony.
West Guadalcanal Solomon Star stringer John Toki said the sermon was conducted by Fr. Nickson Sade.
“Fr. Sade explained to the congregation why Divine Mercy is important to Christians and its importance to receive Holy Communion on that day when Jesus forgives all sins from his blood to save us.
“He also highlighted to the congregation to work together with the church and the community as a whole.”
Toki said, the event is usually held after Easter celebration.
He said, a refreshment was held after the ceremony.
Other Catholic members in Honiara, Auki and Gizo also marked the day.
Divine Mercy Sunday is celebrated on the Sunday after Easter, which is observed by Roman Catholic as well as some Anglicans.
On the second Sunday of Easter of the jubilee year 2000, at the mass for the canonization of St. Faustina Kowalska, Pope John Paul II proclaimed to the world that ‘from now on throughout the church this Sunday will called Divine Mercy Sunday.’
This proclamation was made in 1980.
