WESTERN Provincial Police has acknowledged voters in the Province for their general behaviour during Wednesday’s election.
This came after the province experienced a peaceful election at the close of poll at 5pm yesterday.
Provincial Police Commander, George Guna said there was no reports of disturbance received by them from all the islands expect for the long queue of voters.
Guna believed the peaceful outcome was the result of nationwide liquor ban and people want to come out and exercise their democratic rights.
He said visible police presence at most polling stations helped contributed to the peaceful environment during the poll.
Guna hopes the same situation will continue into the counting and announcement of results today and in the coming days.
Both processes would attract thousands of supports at the counting venues of Gizo, Noro and Seghe.
He said Police are prepared to contain any trouble that may arise during the counting and announcement of results.
Solomon Star understands, the counting and announcement of results normally turned violence because supporters of losing candidates did not accept the outcomes.
