HONIARA City Lord Mayor and Councilor Wilson Mamae had vowed to clean up the mess and fix the Honiara City Council Office.
He made this profound sentiment after he appeared before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) yesterday.
A number of concerns and issues were raised by PAC on the outcome of the Special Investigative Audit Report produced by the Office of the Auditor General (OAG).
Mamae told the PAC that he was happy that he appeared before the Committee and also thanked the Office of the Auditor General (OAG) for the report.
“I believe this is the way forward for HCC after this Special Report and this hearing,” he added.
According to the findings from the report HCC finance and procurement needs to be in place and there should be a legal framework in place to guide HCC financial procedures.
PAC recommended to Mamae that he must priorities the HCC Financial Ordinance as soon as possible.
Mamae said that he is working on it and he will make sure that strict guidelines are in place to guide HCC.
He also confirmed that at the moment they are working on the HCC Financial Ordinance as well as the amendment of the HCC Act 1999.
He also told this paper that he welcomes the recommendations from the report and PAC and will be his priority to work on it.
Mamae however is facing a motion of no-confidence but said he is confident to defeat the motion on the 29th March 2021.
Meanwhile, the PAC committee yesterday also expressed their disappointment to the report when the City Clerk Rence Sore appeared before them.
Sore also revealed that Appointed Councilor John Szetu had written to the HCC on 16 December 2020 to write off the $1.8m he had loaned to HCC.
According to Sore, the City Council had only repaid him $215,000,000 of the total amount.
