Opposition Leader Hon Matthew Wale is urging residents of Choiseul and Western Provinces to remain vigilant.
Hon Wale has called on communities to look out for one another as cyclone Maila causes widespread disruption to homes, infrastructure and livelihoods in Western and Choiseul provinces.
Hon Wale emphasized that in times of natural disasters, community solidarity is crucial.
The Opposition Leader also called on the affected communities to support the most vulnerable, including the elderly, children, and those living in remote or isolated areas, ensuring everyone remains safe.
While acknowledging the government’s quick and proactive response to the situation, Hon Wale stressed the need for urgent, comprehensive assessments on the ground to accurately determine the full extent of damage.
He urged authorities to act swiftly in mobilizing relief, ensuring that aid reaches the communities most affected without delay.
The Opposition Leader strongly urged that relief must get to those who need it and authorities must ensure that distribution of relief supplies are not corrupted or politicised.
“Vigilance and preparedness at the community level, combined with coordinated government action are critical in minimizing the impact of Cyclone Maila,” Hon Wale said.
“We must all remain alert, assist those in need and work together to ensure the safety and well-being of every resident in Choiseul and Western Provinces,” he adds.
He also cautioned that conditions may continue to worsen and urged communities to stay updated with official advisories, avoid unnecessary travel and follow safety protocols until the cyclone passes.
