DESPITE missing two of their key players, Telekom S-league (TSL) Champions Solomon Warriors FC managed to edge their way past Tahiti’s AS Tiare in the OFC Champions League group C’s opening clash in New Caledonia on Sunday.
Following a goalless first half, Warriors broke the deadlock when Dennis Ifunaoa headed home the lone winning goal from a well-worked combination in the second half to give Warriors their 1-0 win.
This is the positive start Warriors has been aiming for.
“A win in our opening match would be the best possible start,” Warriors captain Haddis Aengari told Star Sports prior to their departure last week.
“A win will be a boost to our campaign as it will help motivate our players especially the young players,” he added.
Warriors aim to finish top of the OFC Champions League Group C competition.
They have only one match left to play and that is against the hosts AS Magenta of New Caledonia since Cook Island’s Tupapa Maraerenga withdrew from the tournament.
