THE long-awaited inter-secondary school sports carnival for all Western Province schools will be hosted next year, marking a major comeback for one of the province’s most celebrated youth events.
Provincial Sports Coordinator, Jim Ben, confirmed the revival during a recent meeting with Physical Education teachers on Monday.
“Preparations are already underway under the leadership of the Western Sport Division.”
The carnival, which has been absent from the province’s sporting calendar for several years, is expected to unite students from across Western Province in a week of competition, friendship, and youth development.
“We are committed to bringing back this important carnival, and with the right support, it will be a landmark occasion for our youth and community,” Ben said.
He stressed that the Western Sport Division will work closely with the provincial and national governments, donor partners, and stakeholders to secure resources and ensure the event’s success.
Ben described the carnival as more than just a sporting competition, calling it a vital investment in young people and community spirit.
“The carnival fosters unity and friendship among students from different schools.
” It provides a platform for young people to connect, build networks, and strengthen relationships beyond the classroom,” he explained.
He added that the event also promotes inclusiveness and mutual respect, encouraging students to celebrate diversity and learn from one another.
Apart from its social impact, the carnival is also viewed as an important tool in promoting active lifestyles at a time when sedentary habits are increasingly common among youth.
“The return of the carnival will not only showcase the sporting talents of our students but also remind communities of the importance of active living,” Ben said.
With renewed enthusiasm and strategic partnerships, Western Province is determined to reignite the spirit of competition and camaraderie through this iconic sports carnival.
