Gizo – The Western Provincial Government (WPG) has launched its Three-Year Development Plan (2026–2028) together with development plans for all 26 wards in the province.
Provincial Minister for Planning, Hon. Alesina Redfern, officially launched the plans before the Provincial Assembly during the first day of the sitting in Gizo on Monday describing the initiative as an important step toward coordinated development across the province.
The new plans are aligned with the country’s national development goals and aim to guide development activities in the province over the next three years.
Minister Redfern said the plans were developed through consultations with Ward Development Committees and provincial divisions to ensure community priorities are included.
“These plans reflect the voices and needs of our people at the grassroots level,” he said.
Key priorities identified in the ward plans include improving health and education services, water and sanitation, infrastructure development, agriculture and fisheries, and strengthening community resilience.
The provincial three-year development plan also focuses on human development, economic growth through agriculture and fisheries, better financial management, and environmental protection.
Minister Redfern said while the province is rich in natural resources such as forestry, fisheries and tourism, proper planning is needed to ensure sustainable development.
He called on all stakeholders, including community leaders, resource owners, government ministries and development partners, to work together to successfully implement the plans.
Redfern also acknowledged the efforts of the Provincial Planning Division and development partners for their support in preparing the documents.
With the launch of the 2026–2028 plan, the WPG will now focus on implementing projects aimed at improving services and development for people across the province.
