The Western Provincial Government (WPG) is working on developing a mining policy aimed at safeguarding the rights of its people and the region’s natural resources.
This initiative comes as one mining company is currently conducting prospecting activities in Rendova, while another is undergoing legal processes and consultations with landowners, chiefs, and the provincial government regarding a proposed prospecting operation in Paraso, Vella La Vella.
Premier Billy Veo assured Members of the Provincial Assembly during their recent meeting at Imagination Island in Gizo that his government is committed to establishing a comprehensive mining policy.
He emphasized that while mining has the potential to drive economic development, it is vital to ensure the protection of natural resources and prioritize the health and well-being of local communities.
