Unhappy Temotu premier asks Prime Minister about development plans
The Temotu provincial government yesterday expressed its unhappiness to the government for its failure to stand by its promise.
Premier Fr Brown Beu speaking in an interview with the Solomon Star accused Prime Minister (PM) Gordon Darcy Lilo for failing to carry out most of the developments he had promised to the people of Temotu during his speech at the Temotu province second appointed day in 2012 during the celebration in Lata.
Prime Minister Lilo was the guest of honour during the celebration where he was said to have promised the people of Temotu three things that his government would do to support the province.
The premier claimed the province did not ask PM Lilo about his help for the province.
“But everyone who attended the celebration around the province including some government officials from Honiara heard the PM’s promise.”
Premier Beu recalled that during the speech PM Lilo promised the province that his government would;
• Build Lomlom airport
• Build an tnternational seaport to be built in Graciosa Bay
• Purchase of new ship for the province
“These things were said by the Prime Minister himself during his speech and assured everyone that his government would make it happen for the province.
“As a premier of Temotu province I would like to ask the PM when would his promise be fulfilled.
“Our people and landowners of Graciosa Bay have approached me on several occasion asking when would this seaport be built.
“Honestly I have no concrete answer for them since the PM did not inform us anything about it after his speech until today,” Fr Beu said yesterday.
The premier said it is disappointing situation to have people asking him about the promised developments over and over again.
He said its important that some of these promises are fulfilled so that the current government can leave office with some development happening in the province and not any empty promise.
“As premier of Temotu province, I want to urge you PM to please quickly fulfil your promise and make it happen since the national government is about to be dissolved.
“Please PM hear my cry and fulfil your promise to ensure my people can trust me and your government as a transparent and honest government ever in Solomon Island,” Fr Beu said.
The premier added only Lomlom airport development had been done but is yet to be operational awaiting its final inspection.
