Australia’s Foreign Affairs Minister Honorable Penny Wong has paid a courtesy call on the Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare, during which Wong has discussed a number of issues with the PM.
Two important issues raised during the discussion were matters relating to climate change and regional security.
Wong reiterated Australia’s commitment to reduce gas emission and the commitment to listen more to Island nations’ stories of climate change.
On regional security, the Australia’s Foreign Affairs minister is comforted with the reassurance by PM Sogavare that no military base will be established in the country.
Honorable Penny Wong has assured PM Sogavare that Australia will always stand ready to support Solomon Islands to ensure peace and security is secured and maintained, and that of the Pacific region as well.
Prime Minister Honorable Manasseh Sogavare assured Wong that Australia remains the partner of choice in matters of security and development.
