A Solomon Islands student from Woodford International School has received a prestigious award from Cambridge International Examinations to acknowledge her outstanding performance in the November 2013 Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education examination series.
Cambridge Top in the World awards recognise the success of learners who have achieved the highest standard mark in the world for a single subject.
Joanna Havea received the following Cambridge Top in the World award:
International General Certificate of Secondary Education – Travel and Tourism
The Head of School at Woodford said that the award recognised the talent, dedication and commitment of both learners and staff.
He said: “I am absolutely delighted at Joanna’s outstanding result which has been the product of her own hard work, the commitment and dedication of her teachers and the support and sacrifices made by her parents and family to ensure she received the highest quality education available”.
At Friday’s Secondary School assembly s Angela Hollis, Director of Curriculum, likened Joanna’s achievement to winning a gold medal at the Olympics.
She stated: “Despite being a small International School in the South Pacific, Joanna has demonstrated that Woodford students can successfully compete on the world stage. Joanna has set the bar high and is an inspiration for all our students”.
Joanna Havea is currently completing Year 13 in New Zealand and arrangements are being made to present her with her award at a date to be announced.

They are recognised by universities and employers around the world.
2013 saw the first small cohort of five Woodford students take their IGCSE exams.
In October and November of this year 21 students will sit IGCSE exams in English as a First Language, Mathematics, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Environmental Management, Geography, Travel and Tourism, Information Communication Technology and Business Studies.
