The Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development (MEHRD), in partnership with UNICEF, has held a three-day participatory writeshop to finalize the ICT in Education Master Plan 2026–2030.
Held from 4–6 August 2025 at the Mendana Hotel and MEHRD Conference Room, the event brought together education stakeholders to refine strategic priorities, validate proposed programs, and strengthen partner ownership.
Opening the workshop, Deputy Secretary Corporate, Mr. Coldrine Kolae, acknowledged the contributions of the ICT Support Unit (ICTSU), Ministry of Communications and Aviation (MCA), and Solomon Islands National University (SINU) as key implementers in advancing digital transformation through infrastructure, policy development, and capacity building.
Mr. Kolae highlighted key progress, including:
- Computer laboratories installed in 19 Honiara schools
- All Provincial Education Providers connected to SIG Connect
- Starlink Impact Plan for sustainable school connectivity
- Solar computers supplied to 10 schools per province
- ICTS data centre modernization for hosting iResource and OpenSIEMIS
- Expansion of the Tower Project to connect remote areas

Originally developed in 2019, the ICT Master Plan aims to improve infrastructure and connectivity, expand access to quality digital resources, enhance teaching and learning, and strengthen the Education Management Information System (EMIS).
The revised plan will focus on expanding infrastructure connectivity, strengthening teacher digital competencies, improving digital content and learning platforms, and enhancing data-driven decision-making to transform education across the Solomon Islands.
