The Western Provincial Assembly (WPA) meeting will convene its first sitting for 2026 next month.
The sitting will run from March 16 to 20 at the Fair Trade Conference Room in Gizo.
This was confirmed by WPA Speaker, Hon. Ramuraka Talasasa, who said the five-day assembly will primarily focus on deliberations surrounding the 2026 and 2027 budget.
“The main agenda for this meeting is the appreciation and consideration of the 2026 and 2027 budget,” Speaker Talasasa told the Solomon Star in an interview on Monday.
He emphasized that the budget discussions will be the central focus of the sitting, as members gather to review and deliberate on the province’s financial plans for the next two years.
In addition to the budget agenda, Speaker Talasasa revealed that a report from the House Committee will also be tabled during the meeting.
The report follows extensive public consultations conducted last year regarding the proposed new market ordinance and policy.
“The report of the House Committee will be deliberated in relation to the public consultation on the new market ordinance and policy,” he said.
All 26 Members of the Provincial Assembly (MPAs) representing wards across Western Province are expected to arrive in Gizo ahead of the sitting.
This includes members of the executive, along with the remaining ward MPAs.
The upcoming assembly is expected to play a crucial role in shaping the province’s financial direction and regulatory framework for the coming years.
