A delegation from Yichun City, People’s Republic of China paid a courtesy visit to the Honiara City Council (HCC) Lord Mayor, Councillor Eddie Kasute’e Siapu on Wednesday 20th August 2025.
A brief meeting was held at the HCC Chamber.
The visit aims to strengthen friendship and explore new areas of cooperation between the two cities, including urban development, trade, cultural exchange, and tourism promotion.
In his remarks, Lord Mayor Siapu said, the visit is a positive step towards building closer city-to-city relations that can bring lasting benefits to both Honiara and Yichun City.
“We value the friendship and support from the People’s Republic of China, and we are pleased to welcome our friends from Yichun City to Honiara.
“Your visit opens new opportunities for collaboration that can improve services and promote economic and cultural exchange,” Lord Mayor Siapu said.
The Lord Mayor also acknowledged China’s ongoing support to Honiara City Council, including the provision of vehicles and equipment for waste management, law enforcement, health services, and the installation of solar street lights across the city.
“These contributions have played an important role in improving city services and making Honiara a cleaner and safer place for our people,” he added.
The delegation expressed appreciation for the warm welcome and reaffirmed Yichun City’s interest in developing closer cooperation with Honiara City Council in the years ahead.
