THE Junior Malaita Eagles left-back, Stanford Jacob Waleoi is the latest player the National Under-17 head coach, Stanley Waita and his coaching staff has drafted into the National U17 training squad in preparation for the FIFA World Cup in Peru.
Waleoi’s inclusion was confirmed to Star Sports on Monday after SIFF announced the first seven players over the weekend.
“Junior Malaita Eagles player, Stanford Jacob Waleoi is the latest player that is being selected to join the U17 training squad.
“Coach Stanley Waita and his coaching team have just done the inclusion,” SIFF Media Officer, Simon Abana said.
SIFF selected eight players from the incomplete Youth Solomon Cup to boost the preparation of the training squad.
“A total of eight players from four PFAs were selected to join the National U17 training squad,’’ SIFF Media Officer told Star Sports.
Abana further stressed, the national U17 coaching staff selected the eight players based on the positions they need to strengthen in the current squad.
He also said the current coaching staff of the national U17 believes the selected players have the potential to represent the country in FIFA World Cup thus they are giving the opportunity to train with the squad.
“At the same time the players must prove themselves to the coaching staff as their places in the final squad are not guaranteed.
“Current players in the squad must also fight for their final spots in the squad as selection will be based on merit and commitment towards the training program for the squad,’’ he added.
