THE Youth@Work Programme has began its activities for youths in Honiara.
The programme has registered more than 200 youths for the first half of the year and begun holding refresher trainings for youth of past phases.
Youth who recently registered with the programme also start their community services in their respective communities.
Leader of the group of youth responsible for cleaning up the Mbokona clinic, Maesimae Junior, said they “are proud to help out in their community and very uplifting to learn elders in the communities approved of their services”.
Youth with disabilities undergo literacy training aimed at increasing their level of literacy before undergoing job-ready trainings and basic business training in the coming months.
Correspondingly, in partnership with UNDP (UN Women and UNPBF), registered youth from April Valley undergo a pre-accelerator innovation training that is designed to help youth identify social problems and business opportunities in their communities.
The culmination of the trainings leads to youth coming up with innovative business ideas and who starting this week had begun start your own business (SYOB) training.
Moreover, the Programme began holding refresher trainings including Curriculum Vitae, cover letter, interview tips for youth dating back to the first phase. Also book keeping, financial management and financial literacy training were organised for young entrepreneurs of the past 12th Phase.
Speaking to the Deputy Coordinator Roselyn Bibimauri, she acknowledges the work her team is doing and the cooperation of the new phase so far.
“I am happy for my team’s effort in carrying out our duties since the last two months and the cooperation of the new intake so far, I am looking forward for their positive participation in the coming months, » Ms Bibimauri said.
“The Youth@Work Programme would like to thank the Honiara City Council for their generous support and partnership to making the activities of Community service carried out effectively,’’ she added.
Youth@Work is implemented by the Pacific Community, in partnership Solomon Islands Ministry of National Unity, Peace and Reconciliation, the Ministry of Commerce, Industries, Labour and Immigration, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and the Ministry of Women, Youth, Children and Family Affairs.
