As 10,000 Toes Campaign continues its vital mission in the Solomon Islands, the ambassadors of the campaign in Taro on Wednesday 20th August conducted a one-day free health check-up in Poroporo village, Northwest Choiseul.
The 10,000 Toes Campaign is an initiative that aims to eliminate Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) in rural communities across the Solomon Islands.
During the visit the team provided critical screening and health education to community members in Poroporo village.
The screening involved checking of blood pressure, glucose level, weight, height and body mass index (BMI).
Most of the patients have been advised to control their diet and sugar level during the campaign.
Most of these health ambassadors have undergone training before carrying out the screening.
According to the Vice president for the 10,000 Toes Campaign in Taro, Serah Likaveke the recent visit was a key part of their ongoing mission to expand their service and reach out to rural communities in Choiseul Province (CP).

“We conduct free health check-ups for blood pressure and sugar level which are focused on giving people the knowledge they need to prevent and manage these conditions.
“Our goal is to eradicate the devastating impact of NCDs in our rural communities through awareness and early detection,” Likaveke stated.
The event involved not only screenings but also one-on-one consultations and awareness sessions.
“We educated them on the importance of a healthy diet and regular physical activity to combat the rising tide of NCDs,” she explain
She added, over the last few months the group already reached out to four communities in Northwest Choiseul.
Local community leaders in Poroporo village have praised the initiative, emphasising the importance of bringing the essential health services directly to villages where access to clinics is often limited.
The campaign plans to continue its roll out to other communities in the province in the coming months.
