SOLOMON ISLANDS is attending the 3rd Ministerial Dialogue on Police Capacity-Building and Cooperation between China and Pacific Island Countries, underlining China’s willingness to share its experience in the field of security.
Police Minister Jimson Fiau Tanangada is attending the Conference which opened in Fujian Province, China, on 10September.
Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Samoa and Vanuatu are, among other Pacific Island Countries attending the high-level Conference, believed to be the first of its kind.
Observers told Solomon Star on Thursday the presence of Chinese Minister Wang at the Conference underlines Beijing’s desire to share its expertise and experience with the eight Pacific Island Countries attending the Conference.
“China’s public security environment is obvious to all. Its experience is worth learning from for Solomon Islands. Australia and other Western Countries also have good practices and while cooperating with Western countries, they should not reject China.
“They should, instead, look at strengthening multilateral cooperation,” the observers said.
“The convenience and positive factors brought to Solomon Islands since the police cooperation between China and South Pacific Island countries was launched has had positive impact.”
