Member of Parliament (MP) for Fataleka, Rexon Annex Ramofafia, is the new Minister of Finance and Treasury following a sudden Cabinet reshuffle on Friday.
Ramofafia replaces Trevor Manemahaga, who had served less than a month since being sworn in on 8 September.
Manemahaga has now been reassigned as Minister for National Planning and Development Coordination (MNPDC).
Both men were sworn in at Government House yesterday afternoon.
Government House, Private Secretary, Rawcliff Ziza confirmed the swearing to Solomon Star.
The reshuffle comes as Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele moves to quell internal divisions within the Government for National Unity and Transformation (GNUT) following threats of ministers resigning from the government and moving a third motion of no confidence.
Ramofafia studied at the University of the South Pacific in Suva, Fiji and previously worked as a policy analyst at the Ministry of Finance and Treasury before entering politics.
He was first elected to Parliament in 2019 as MP for Fataleka constituency in Malaita Province and was appointed Minister for MNPDC in the same year.
In the April 2024 national election, he secured a landslide victory to retain his seat.
