The Honiara Council of Women (HCW) on Monday 6th October 2025, paid a courtesy visit to the Honiara City Council (HCC) Lord Mayor, Councillor Eddie Kasuteé Siapu.
During the meeting at the Honiara City Council (HCC), Lord Mayor Siapu warmly welcomed the delegation and acknowledged their important role in representing women across the city.
He commended the Council of Women for their efforts in empowering women and promoting community development throughout the city.
In his remarks, the Lord Mayor said, it is very important to strengthen the link between the Honiara Council of Women and the Honiara City Council, as HCC is the legitimate body responsible for managing and overseeing the city’s affairs.
He emphasized that establishing a strong partnership between the two institutions is crucial for city development and for ensuring that women’s voices are included in decision-making processes.
Lord Mayor Siapu further emphasized that women are key partners in community growth and social progress.
He encouraged the women’s council to continue working closely with the City Council to promote initiatives that support families, improve livelihoods, and build a cleaner, safer, and more inclusive city.
HCW expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the Lord Mayor for accepting their request and warmly welcoming their visit.
They said the meeting was meaningful and provided a great opportunity to strengthen cooperation between the two bodies.
The Council of Women represents the twelve wards within Honiara City and serves as the voice of women in community development, advocacy, and leadership.
The meeting concluded with both parties agreeing to explore future collaboration in programs that support women’s empowerment and community development in Honiara.
