Australia has reaffirmed its commitment to end gender-based violence (GBV) in Solomon Islands, announcing an additional SBD13million over five years through Pacific Strong: Amplifying Action to End Violence Against Women and Girls (PAVE).
The funding will further support the Family Support Centre and Christian Care Centre – two key organisations providing frontline services to survivors.
The announcement was made during a visit to Honiara by Senator the Hon Nita Green, Australia’s Assistant Minister for Pacific Island Affairs, from 26–28 November.
The launch of PAVE coincides with the 16 Days of Activism, a global campaign led locally by the Solomon Islands Ministry of Women, Youth, Children and Family Affairs.
“Through PAVE we are expanding support to eleven crisis centres across nine Pacific countries, and ensuring women and children experiencing violence can access safe, timely, and survivor-centred services,” said Assistant Minister Green.
This significant new funding commitment will strengthen frontline services, expand outreach, and reinforce Australia’s long-standing partnership with local organisations driving change.
It builds on years of collaboration to create safer communities and promote gender equality.
At a launch event with Minister for Women, Youth, Children and Family Affairs, Cathy Nori, Assistant Minister Green said “Your leadership and commitment have brought us this far. Australia stands united with you in this critical effort to create a future free from violence.”
