The Community Policing Unit (CPU) of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) in the Kirakira police station continues to visit communities as part of the festive season community engagement plan.
Team Leader (TL), CPU, Makira-Ulawa Province, Sergeant (Sgt) Audrey Suhata, said the visit was purposely to strengthen communities on their roles and responsibilities to mitigate potential threats in order for safer and peaceful festive season celebrations that everyone can enjoy.
TL Suhata said community engagement is an effective tool that connects police and the community. It helps both police and community share information freely and identify ways forward and how the police, communities, and stakeholders can work together to address them.
Sgt. Suhata reiterated the importance of continuous collaboration with communities because at the community level people give information more openly and confidently compared to when attending police stations.
Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC) of Makira-Ulawa Province Inspector Gordon Horomae conveyed appreciation to communities and community leaders for their support towards a peaceful festive season, and this must continue even if the festive season is over.
Supervising PPC Horomae emphasized that establishing a strong relationship between police and communities is crucial for maintaining the safety of our people.
