SASALE Football Club (FC) has been crowned the champions of the 2024 Kwaiafa Christmas Football League in Malaita.
This came after they finished the tournament unbeaten, securing four wins and one draw.
Their impressive run reflects not only their skills but also their discipline and unity throughout the competition.
Team captain and central defender Chris Lausao said he was proud of his players for their commitment and belief in the team’s game plans.
“For a team without a proper playing field back in our village, going up against teams with good facilities is not easy,” Lausao said.
“We only train between the homes in our village, but with determination and teamwork, we made our dream come true.”
He said the victory means a lot to the boys, who often use small spaces around their homes to practice, create game plans, and sharpen their tactics.
Lausao also acknowledged the strong competition from other teams, thanking them for putting up exciting and challenging games.
He described the league as an enjoyable and meaningful event,not just for competition, but for bringing communities together to share the Christmas season with joy and to promote peace.
Lausao also extended gratitude to the league’s organizing committee, sponsors, and TFL Group for initiating the Christmas football program and for recognizing the importance of involving nearby communities.
The Kwaiafa League Organizing Committee also congratulated all participating teams for their cooperation and sportsmanship.
The committee said this year’s tournament is just the beginning, and continued partnership will be needed to make next year’s event even better.
“It is not an easy task to host such an event for the community,” the committee said.
“It requires money, commitment, time, and hard work. Despite challenges, we are happy that everyone came together to enjoy the tournament.”
The committee also thanked sponsors and individuals who supported the league in various ways.
