The Solomon Kings FC will step into the professional era on Sunday, 18 January 2026, when they open their 2026 OFC Pro League campaign against Papua New Guinea’s Hekari United FC at Eden Park in Auckland, New Zealand.
The clash is expected to mark the beginning of a new Melanesian rivalry, with both sides looking to start their campaign on a high note.
Speaking recently, Kings FC head coach Ben Cahn said the players are on track condition-wise and hopes their preparation will deliver results.
“We are preparing for our first block in Auckland where we have three games in 10 days. It is a difficult task for anybody, especially with short preparation. But we are on track condition-wise and we are planning as carefully and as detailed as we can to make sure we are ready,” Cahn said.
The Kings arrived in Auckland on Friday after completing a two-week training camp at Carmichael Park in Brisbane, home of Australia’s Wynnum Wolves FC.
Cahn said, the club’s long-term vision goes beyond immediate results.
“What we want to do is set a strong foundation for future seasons and for future generations. We want to build a playing style, build an identity, and improve the standards on and off the pitch.
“If we can do that, results will follow, but really it’s about setting a strong foundation for many years to come,” he added.
Speaking about their opponents, the Englishman said, there is limited information on how other teams are preparing for the opening round of the OFC Pro League but stressed that his side will focus on their own strengths.
“We’ll prepare to adapt to what we need in the game, but mostly we’ll go out with intensity and try to play our way.
“At the minimum, we expect to play and give everything for the nation, and hopefully the preparation that we’ve had will be strong enough to get us the result we want in the games,” he added.
The inaugural OFC Pro League season kicks off on Saturday day.
