Daily operations at the Malaita Provincial Government (MPG) have been severely disrupted following the continued absence of internet services, which has affected offices since last week.
The outage has significantly hindered official work, particularly in areas requiring communication and networking, resulting in delays to routine administrative functions.
Officers who spoke to this paper confirmed that the disruption is related to a breakdown of the Government ICT network.
However, they said further technical details surrounding the failure remain unclear.
Information contained in a notice indicates that the issue is not isolated to Malaita Province, as provincial government offices across the country are experiencing similar internet disruptions, with the exception of Honiara.
One officer said the prolonged lack of internet access has affected staff attendance, as many officers are unable to carry out their duties effectively without online connectivity.
“As most of our work depends on internet services, the breakdown of the ICT network has forced some officers to remain away from the office,” the officer said.
Affected officers have called on the responsible authorities to urgently address the issue to allow normal government operations to resume.
