Goldie College in Western Province is currently facing a severe water shortage, with its primary water sources rendered unusable due to a blockage in the water dams, forcing students to search for alternative water supplies.
For weeks now, students have been relying on water from well and the limited water tanks available at the school.
However, the situation is growing more dire as the water in both the school’s and staff’s tanks is quickly depleting.
A resident living at the Goldie School Compound, spoke with Solomon Star over the weekend, expressing his concerns.
“Right now, students are depending on the school’s water tanks, as well as those of the staff,” he said. “But these tanks are almost empty,” he added.
He also highlighted a growing health concern, noting that many of the water tanks have become breeding grounds for mosquitoes, which could lead to additional health issues among the students.
The water crisis at Goldie College is not a new issue. The school has long struggled with insufficient and unreliable water sources, with the dams often becoming blocked and failing to provide a consistent water supply.
For the time being, students are forced to find water each morning for basic hygiene, such as bathing and washing.
The Goldie College administration was unavailable for comment.
