Kuava community in Ward 9, South Vella, Western Province has officially launched a new Crime Prevention Committee (CPC) in response to growing security concerns following two separate murder cases in the village over the past two years.
Chairman of the Olepetu Kuava CPC, Nelson Likelalu, said the initiative was formed out of urgent necessity, as the recent tragedies have negatively impacted the community’s reputation.
He explained that the committee aims to restore honor and ensure the safety and well-being of all residents.
“We want our children to have a good life,” Likelalu said, stressing that the community is determined to protect the next generation from violence and instability.

Speaking during the launch on Saturday, Sergeant Alick Alesana described the occasion as a historic milestone for Olepetu Village.
He commended the community for taking proactive steps toward promoting peace, order, and responsible living in the area.
Acting Western Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Wilken Miriki also addressed the gathering, urging the people of Olepetu in Kuava to change their mindset and work together for positive change.
Miriki encouraged residents to take pride in their community and comply with the newly introduced bylaw.
“In this way, the community can live in peace,” he said.
The establishment of the CPC marks a new chapter for Kuava as residents unite to reclaim their village’s safety and build a more secure future for their children.
