Gizo police have arrested a 26-year-old male person for raping a 17-year-old girl at Banana Valley in Gizo, Western Province (WP).
It was alleged that on 14 February 2026 at around 7pm in the evening, when the victim finished work, the suspect accompanied her back home and raped her as they were about to reach the victim’s house.
Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC) WP Superintendent Wilken Miriki says, “The suspect has been arrested after the matter was reported to the police on the 26th of February, 2026.
PPC Miriki says, “The suspect who is not related to the victim has been charged for five counts of rape contrary to section 136F (1) (a) & (b) of the penal code and will appear before the Gizo Magistrates’ Court on 16 March 2026.”
Superintendent Miriki said this kind of incident is really not good for young girls, and police will not tolerate anyone in the communities who intended to commit such a crime.
The provincial police chief appeals to good people in and around Gizo and WP to look after our young girls and protect them from such perpetrators. Such an incident will really affect them.
