A youth apprenticeship project aimed at empowering young people with practical skills and work experience was officially launched in Auki on Tuesday.
The initiative is a partnership between the National Youth Congress and Plan International, with the Malaita Provincial Youth Division serving as the implementing partner in Malaita Province.
Malaita Provincial Youth Desk Officer Francis Samosari said the program began with its first intake of 30 young people and aims to support a total of 100 youths during the course of the project.
Mr. Samosari said the apprenticeship program is designed to provide young people with practical skills, workplace exposure, and personal development opportunities that will help improve their chances of gaining employment or starting their own small businesses.
He noted that many young people in the province face challenges in finding employment, and initiatives such as this will help prepare them with the skills, knowledge, and experience needed to enter the workforce.
“The program will help young people gain valuable hands-on experience and build their confidence as they prepare for employment and other opportunities,” Mr. Samosari said.
The opening session also highlighted the theme “Safeguard,” focusing on the protection and well-being of youth and children participating in the program.
The project is expected to contribute positively to the development of the province by helping young people become more productive and actively involved in their communities.
Mr. Samosari acknowledged the support of partners involved in making the program possible and expressed hope that the initiative will create more opportunities for youths across Malaita.
