ALIGEGEO Provincial Secondary School in Malaita has thanked Caritas for the provision of water tanks for students’ use.
Caritas is the relief and development agency of the Catholic church.
School principal Robert Lafisi said the donation came at a right time.
He said the school has been without water since October last year.
“Teachers and students have to walk down more than a kilometer away to bath and collect drinking water from open and unhealthy wells,” Mr Lafisi said.
He said they’ve been seeking assistance to address the situation since then, but to no avail.
“We thank Carita for seeing our need,” Mr Lafisi said.
“Indeed this year is a very challenging one for the school in terms of water,” he added.
“But with this donation of nine aluminum water tanks, we should be able to use them to store water for our use.”
Development officer of Catholic Church in Auki Francis Wale has assured the school that the organisation is committed to help the school.
“The water tanks are our first assistance to the school. We are also looking at installing water pumps at the school to solve its water problem,” Mr Wale said.
