As the countdown towards next Tuesday’s motion of no confidence gets underway, citizens of this country have been reminded to remain calm and respect the democratic process.
The appeal came from the Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele and Opposition Leader Matthew Wale.
In parliament on Tuesday before a special adjournment was approved, both leaders called on Honiara residents to respect the rule of law.
Leading up go to Tuesday, the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) has stepped up its security operations.
In a statement, RSIPF said, Police will be working closely with local communities in Honiara to ensure a safe and peaceful environment for all citizens.
“Police is closely monitoring the current political situation and appeals to everyone to stay calm and allow our leaders to do their business.”
RSIPF Commissioner, Mr. Mostyn Mangau, reminds Honiara residents and the good people of Solomon Islands to respect the principles of democracy.
Members of the public have also been warned not to spread false information about this motion, as it can lead to misinformation and confusion.
He said members of the public should stay calm, treat the coming days as business as usual, and allow members of parliament to do their work in accordance with the political processes.
