Solomon Islands Athletics Federation has revealed the names of 16 athletes that will represent the country at the coming Pacific Games in Papua New Guinea (PNG).
The runners are grouped under two categories, the sprinters and the middle and long distance runners.
For the sprint category, there are new faces who are in for their first taste of the Pacific region’s biggest sporting event, the Pacific Games.
Rosefelo Siosi, Sharon Firisua leads the names of eight athletes selected to represent Solomon Islands in the long distance event.
Also included is former champion and veteran runner, Chris Votu.
The team of 16 athletes comprises of 13 male and three females.
These athletes are currently training under the watchful eyes of Terry West the President of the Oceania Athletics Coaches Association.
West has been with the athletes for a week and half now and his involvement is a boost to the preparations for the athletes having somebody of such caliber to help with the training.
West is here for three weeks while his wife is in the country to work with Ministry of Finance department.
